This article is part of a series for Getting Started. We recommend you follow the previous steps before doing this step. You can see all of the Getting Started articles here.

The video below shows you how to segment the employees in your panel. Prefer reading? Just scroll down.

Before sending your survey to your employees we’ll first look at how we can group employees inside Surveybot. Surveybot uses the concept of a “Panel” that includes all of your employees. You can then create “segments” in different ways to group your employees so that when you send surveys you only send them to the segment you choose rather than your entire company. You can, of course, send surveys to your entire company as well.

Segment Options

Auto Update Segments - These segments are created by specifying a criteria of conditions. Any employee who meets your criteria will be included in your segment.

To do this;

1. Navigate to your “Panel” from the top menu bar.

2. Click the “New Segment” button and select “Create a segment”

3. Select the match type for your segment conditions. "all" means that every condition must be met and "any" means that only one condition must be met.

Now we'll step through each of the different ways that you can add conditions to build your segment.

Segment by Profile Attributes

Profile attributes are data fields for each of your employees. Surveybot provides a set of default fields but you can also create your own custom fields for your panels. Then you can save answers to questions in your surveys to these custom fields.

1. To create your condition, first select the "Attribute" from the dropdown.

2. Select the match type for your condition from the next dropdown.

3. Enter a match value in the text field.

4. To add another Profile attribute condition click "Add another condition" and repeat steps 1 - 3.

Segment by Previous Question Answers

Here's how you can add conditions to segment your panel based on answers to specific questions in previous survey responses.

1. Select a Survey from the first dropdown.

2. Then, select a question from the second dropdown.

3. Select the match type for your condition from the next dropdown.

4. Enter a value to match in the text field for your condition.

5. To add another Previous question answer condition click "Add another condition" and repeat steps 1 - 4.

Segment by Previous Survey Responses

Here's how to segment your panel based on the responses to previous surveys they've done.

1. Select the survey you want to segment your condition from.

2. Select if you want to segment the responses by "Is Complete" or "Is not Complete" responses.

3. To add another Previous survey response condition click "Add another condition" and repeat steps 1 - 2.

Static (email list) Segments

Static segments enable you to segment your employees using a list of their email addresses. This can be done either by uploading a CSV file with the mails in it or by pasting the list of email addresses.

1. Navigate to your “Panel” from the top menu bar.

2. Click the “New Segment” button and select “Upload a csv or paste in emails”

3. Enter a name for your new segment.

4. To import from a CSV file select “Import email addresses” then select your file.

5. To paste the email list select “Paste email addresses” and then paste in your email list.

6. Next click “Create” to preview your segment then save it.

Workplace Group Segments

Workplace group segments enable you to automatically create segments based on the members of specific groups in your Workplace.

1. Navigate to your “Panel” from the top menu bar.

2. Click the “New Segment” button and select “Import groups from Facebook Workplace”

3. Now you will see a list of the groups in your Workplace.

4. If you can’t see the group you are looking for you can type the name in the search box to the right.

Then, press the “Update Groups” button to update the groups from Workplace.

5. Once you find the group you’re looking for click “Sync”.

6. Now your Workplace Segment has been created, click the “View” button to preview it.

Nice work! You can now view your different Employee Segments.
